Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane and his cousin were arrested early Sunday morning for assaulting and robbing a cab driver in Buffalo, according to several news sources in that city.

According to a police report, the 20-year-old Kane and his cousin James M. Kane, 21, were arrested around 5am et after allegedly punching the cabbie after he said he did not have proper change for their trip fare. [espn]

Actually, the real story is quite different according to the cabbie’s lawyer. Apparently it is common practice for cabdrivers in Buffalo to lock the doors if they believe the customers might run off without paying.

Bad idea: Lock a massive hockey player in the car with his cousin after at least eight hours of boozing and see how they react.

What does this type of act invite?

1.) No tip
2.) Angry customer(s)
3.) Ass beating

Most cab drivers are asking for it anyways with the way they drive and treat passengers. This driver definitely knows he had this coming to him.

Not official video. Fast forward to 50 seconds.
