Eckstein admits to using performance enhancements

These days, we really aren’t shocked when we hear about a professional baseball player cheating the game by using performance enhancing agents. First Raphy, then Roger, then A-Rod, then Manny…now David Eckstein. The Padres second baseman tested positive yesterday for Flintstone Vitamins, which are listed as #756 on MLB’s banned substance list, right after #755 Five Hour Energy and just before #757 Dragonfruit Vitamin Water.

A statement by MLB read:

“Flintstone Vitamins are notorious for boosting levels of Vitamin C and D, which strengthen the immune system and strengthen bones. In addition they aid in the release of energy from food with Riboflavin and Niacin. We are talking about a very serious supplement here. We at MLB only hope that young baseball fans do not follow this example of taking Flintstone Vitamins.”

Eckstein, whose .347 slugging percentage and zero home runs raised some eyebrows, knew that these numbers might cause suspicion in the baseball community. His attorney released the following statement:

“David cannot begin to express his regret over this incident. He is a good, clean player who made a bad, dirty decision to purchase this supplement at the local drug store and take every morning. He can assure baseball fans that he only used vitamins once and that he is aware of the blemish he has put on the game and especially the San Diego Padres organization. He has accepted his fifty game ban and looks forward to getting back on the field and working again.”

eckstei deserves the suspension – as a professional ball player, you must know what kind of meds your getting yourself into. As far as Im concerned, eckstein should be relieved of baseball, forever
