[fourth down] NFL debate of the week: Is Bill Belichick a dummy?
November 18th, 2009 by why be athletic | Posted in football, Gen. Discussion | 631 viewsBill Belichick made a gutsy call on a fourth and two in his own half on Sunday against the Colts and paid the ultimate price – giving Peyton Manning a short field to go and win the game, which he happily did with little time left on the clock.
Thoughts:
* Only Belichick would make this call. No one else in the NFL has the balls.
* Belichick is fully aware that Peyton Manning can drive any distance in any amount of time, hence punting was considered a non-option.
* With Brady at the helm with options Moss, Welker, and Faulk, only O-line protection could have played a factor in this decision. With the way they protected Brady all game, all signs pointed to Go For It.
* While BB received some flack, any other coach in the league would have been lambasted like a 1950′s schoolchild with a ruler. The fact that the criticism was tame shows how respected he is as a coach.
* How often does Kevin Faulk bobble the ball in key spots? Never. He may be a bit player, but he’s as clutch as any non-QB in the league in big spots.
* Not converting essentially means the Pats will not have home-field advantage in the playoffs. Get ready for Colts/Pats in Indy part deux.
* Bill’s GF has giant hooters.

Check this out as well. Some cameraman dares intervene in a moment where Belichick failed!
