Instead, a scorching day in the south of France seared an opening into the biggest storyline of this Tour and put Armstrong into what may be considered a phantom lead.
By being part of a 27-strong late breakaway that left the peloton in its wake, cycling’s biggest name moved into third overall, and, most significantly, took 40 seconds out of Contador, putting him 19 seconds ahead of his teammate on total time. [more]
