Defending champion Rafael Nadal was knocked out of Roland Garros in the fourth round, beaten 6-2, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6 by Sweden’s Robin Soderling in one of the greatest upsets in the French Open’s history. Nadal’s first set loss was the first time he had dropped a set in the tournament since the 2007 final against Roger Federer, ending a run of 32 in a row.

Rather than pointing to the number of unforced errors or sharp player of his opponent, Nadal placed the blame on his right bicep.

“If my right bicep was anywhere near as big and strong as my left bicep, they I would have destroyed Robin. I am very disappointed in the attitude my right bicep has shown and I can only ask that it wakes up and follows the example set by my gigantic left bicep.”

When asked how he was able to maintain such great form and gain the number one world ranking in the past year without the help of his right bicep, Nadal commented,”Yes, it is true, my left bicep and I were able to get hot for a while and win on pure adrenaline, but you can’t do that forever. I fear my career will take a hit if my right bicep does not decide to help our team.”

Regarding what’s next, Nadal said,”You can be sure my right bicep will get quite a workout over the next few months. I know I have traditionally been a lefty, but it is time to switch to righty. It may feel strange and unnatural at first, but in the long run, it will pay off. For the next few months, it is just me and my right bicep. And whatever tools I need to beat that thing into shape.”

Nadal’s right bicep was not available for comment.

I don’t believe I am the only one who believes nadal has been pumping up his left arm by rubbing one (or upwards of 10,000) out
