Thome hits #550, but first with eyes open
June 2nd, 2009 by why be athletic | Posted in baseball | 133 views[MLB.com] Jim Thome mashed a tie-breaking three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the White Sox came from behind to win, 6-2, over the A’s on Monday night at U.S. Cellular Field.
The 389-foot homer to left-center field gave Thome nine on the season, 550 for his career and propelled the White Sox to their fourth straight victory.
Strangely enough, however, this was Thome’s first homerun with his eyes open.
Thome admitted, “Yep, it’s true. The first 549, I had my eyes closed. The ball is going so fuckin fast usually. It gets pretty scary and I’d rather not see it if it is going to hit me. I’m no pussy, you’d be scared too.”
