Yang-gate: Tiger places Asian golf advancement before PGA win
August 17th, 2009 by why be athletic | Posted in golf | 121 viewsChaska, MINN – The first reaction most golf fans had included the phrases “melt down”, “fluke”, and “major upset”. The truth is that Tiger Woods didn’t lose this one…he gave it away.
Not far from Jack Nicklaus’ major tournament record, TW was placed in a unique situation with the leaderboard position of South Korean Y.E. Yang, who shot up to second place with outstanding third round play, putting him in the final pairing with Woods on Sunday. There were two options for Woods- win major #15 or allow Yang to become the first Asian-born man to win a major.
To the dismay of some fans, it was the latter option that appeared to have been taken. The advancement of the Asian golf game has always been important to Woods. After all, he is a quarter Chinese and a quarter Thai. Some would call this being culturally responsible while others may call it maddening.
As this is still yet to be confirmed, no one from the Woods camp had any comment. Translators were not readily available to take any direct comments from Yang.
